If we could shrink the Earth's population to a village of precisely 100 people, with all existing human ratios remaining the same, it would look like this:
There would be 57 Asians, 21 Europeans, 14 from the Western Hemisphere, including North and South America, and 8 from Africa. Fifty-one would be female, and 49 would be male. Seventy would be nonwhite; 30 would be white. Sixty-six would be non-Christian and 33 would be Christian. Eighty would live in substandard housing. Seventy would be unable to read. Half would suffer from malnutrition. One would be near death, and one would be near birth. Only one would have a college education. Half of the entire village's wealth would be in the hands of only 6 people, and all 6 would be citizens of the United States.

[COMMENT: Such figures are often used to make westerners ashamed of the riches with which we have been blessed.
I would question whether ½ of the world's wealth would be in American hands, but it might be so.
In any event, it is one thing to repent of our selfishness and greed -- which we ought to do. Our primary problem is that we do what Deuteronomy 8 warns about, we begin to think that our own strong right arm has gotten us all this wealth, and forget to fall on our faces and thank God for it.
It is quite another to reject the enormous riches with which God has blessed us because of our Judeo-Christian heritage -- which we ought not do.
How can we explain the enormous outburst of creative energy in America? In the West generally, but most of all in America, enormous creative energy has been released because, with all our failures and sins, we understood ourselves to a sufficient degree to be under the law and grace of God. We understood freedom to be a gift of God and that the creation was part of His bounty.
If our primary American export was the freedom of a democratic republic under God (under God is the ONLY way to have a democratic republic -- all other "democracy" turns in to socialism and control of the people), we would be exporting the same release of energy to other peoples, who could then enjoy the same benefits that we have.
