Athens, TN - a well regulated Militia...!
[COMMENT: The following came in an email recently. E. Fox]
This is the reason we have a 2nd amendment
Please remember your civics classes.
An interesting bit of Tenn. History which got national attention.
What you see in the video is Hollywood but the event itself was real. (TN 2a 102) Note the old original pictures near the end.
My response to a family email containing the above -- E. Fox
Wow! Thanks for this piece on Athens, TN. Reminds me of a quote from someone: Thought for the Day - 7/26/05: If you consider that there have been an average of 160,000 troops in the Iraq theater of operations during the last 22 months, that gives a firearm death rate of 60 per 100,000. The rate in Washington, DC, is 80.6 per 100,000. That means that you are 33% more likely to be shot in our Nation's Capital, which has some of the strictest gun-control laws in the nation, than you are in Iraq. Conclusion: (1) We should immediately pull out of Washington, DC. or, (2) We should immediately cancel gun-control laws, re-arm our citizens, and take back Washington, DC.
Since the Supreme Court ruled that the 2nd Amendment does indeed apply and that the citizens of WDC do indeed have a right to bear arms, the violence rate has gone down, not up. Same, I believe, for Chicago. Is there any evidence to the contrary???
For all interested, take a look at my new 2nd Amendment Page at http://www.theroadtoemmaus.org/RdLb/21PbAr/Pl/Cnst/2ndAmend/002ndAmnd.htm Especially the section by Edwin Vieira on the "Militia of the Several States" He is a constitutional lawyer who has written probably "the book" on how to restore the "well regulated militia". The militia has been all but destroyed because it has been co-opted largely by the Fed, rather than being primarily under the State governments, which, of course, compromises its effectiveness against Fed tyranny. Anyone smell a rat?
One of the primary principles of our government is that the order of authority goes: God, we, the people, and government -- in that order of importance. We, the people, tell the government how it will rule us, it does NOT tell us how it will rule us. In order to keep that order of authority, we, the people, must be able to bear arms (as in Athens). Janet Napolitano must have had Athens in mind when she issued that atrocious statement some years ago listing returning vets as candidates for being subversive and dangerous. Along with believing Christians. Well, from the present government's point of view, she is right. We are indeed a threat to their overlordship.
How many of the national massacres of the last century (Germany, Russia, China, Cambodia, N. Korea, et al) would have been avoided if the people had remained armed. They were all carefully disarmed. Just as at Wounded Knee (http://www.theroadtoemmaus.org/RdLb/21PbAr/Hst/US/WoundedKnee&GunContrl.htm) . The whole history of the world would have been changed. Or at the very least we would have had a good "shot" at it.
It is our Christian duty as children of God to shoulder our personal responsibility to be the first line of defense against both local crime and against government crime. We the people, taken as a voting block, are the highest Officer of the State. Not the president, not Congress, not the Supreme Court, not all three together. They are all our servants. We are not theirs. Sovereignty lies not in the government, but in the people under God, who is the only logically possible source of governmental authority (see http://www.theroadtoemmaus.org/EM/ShpMl/Law&Grace/00Law&Grace.htm, and also William Blackstone http://www.theroadtoemmaus.org/RdLb/21PbAr/Pl/Cnst/BlackstonLaw.htm ).
